February 10th, 2023

On a typically seasonal Miami February evening in the splendid ambience of the Leku Magic Garden at the Rubell Museum, the South Florida Society of Prevention of Cruelty to Animals held their 30th Anniversary celebration before an enthusiastic, chic crowd of animal lovers. It was a sold out event honoring a true champion for animal protection in Dade County for so long, Commissioner Sally Heyman.

The Eugene Ewan Mori Foundation trustees Mark Lees and Patrick Herlihy were on hand to show their and the President of EEMF, Eileen Herlihy's commitment and financial support with a $400,000 donation to the South Florida SPCA. Chris Septer, the South Florida SPCA executive director, announced it was the largest donation they had ever received in their existence and would be putting it to immediate use in their expanding, rescue and rehabilitation mission of the abused and abandoned animals they serve.

Commissioner Heyman brought along Mayor Daniella Levine Cava, Miami Dade County's first ever woman mayor and both ladies expressed to the delight of the audience their desire to eradicate animal cruelty in the region with full county, advocate and financial support. They singled out and praised the tireless efforts the South Florida SPCA have made in protecting and rescuing the vulnerable, endangered animal community, 24/7 for the last three decades.

Mark Lees commented that it was with great pleasure the trustees of the EEM Foundation were able to make this donation to an awesome group of boots on the ground warriors that are the last line of defense for the abused and abandoned horses and livestock in South Florida.

The EEM Foundation looks forward to supporting the South Florida SPCA in the years ahead in their ongoing battle against the abuse of our animal community.
